Google chasing iPad customers

Technology fans are waiting with bated breath for the launch of Google’s newest product; its assault on the lucrative tablet computer market. At the moment, the iPad is the undisputed “King of the Tablet”, with the much-loved Kindle close behind, though whether you buy the first or the second will probably depend on whether you’re most interested in surfing or reading.

No-one is sure yet whether Google’s effort will be direct competition for the iPad, the Kindle or somewhere in between the two, but the rumours are that the product will be on the market by the middle of 2012.

Along with the anticipation over whether to expect an iPad-type computer or a Kindle-style e-reader, technology experts are also uncertain which operating platform Google will choose for their   tablet product. Rumours from the Far East suggest that Google will buck the trend and choose an Android system, despite the failure of other Android tablets when compared to sales of the all-powerful iPad.

Since tablets first came on the market a few years ago, the iPad has comprehensively outsold its Android competition, though Google bosses will hope that their influential name saves their tablet from a similar fate.

The decision to launch a rival to the iPad follows hard on the heels of Google’s entry into the smartphone market with its Nexus brand. Although unlikely to trouble the established players in the mobile phone industry, the Nexus has proven more successful than many pessimists predicted.

Hints from interviews with Google executives seem to suggest that they will be going after the market leading iPad when it comes to the development of their own tablet, with promises of high quality and excellent functionality. After all, Kindle has only secured its high sales thanks to keeping things simple and charging consumers a lot less than Apple for its more advanced product.
